Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of the method of strengthening earth to generate metal in the treatment of recurrent respiratory tract infection (RRTI) with qi-deficiency syndrome in children. Methods A total of 70 children with RRTI with qi-deficiency syndrome were enrolled and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 35 children in each group. The children in the control group were given conventional Western medicine treatment and those in the observation group were given traditional Chinese medicine for strengthening earth to generate metal for 4 courses of treatment (7 days per course), and then all children were followed up for 1 year. The number of respiratory tract infections within 1 year before and after treatment and duration of each infection were compared between the two groups, and the clinical outcome was evaluated. Results The observation group had a significantly better clinical outcome than the control group (P<0.05). Both groups had significant reductions in the number of respiratory tract infections within 1 year after treatment and duration of each infection (P<0.05), and the observation group had significantly greater reductions than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The method of strengthening earth to generate metal can be used for the prevention and treatment of RRTI with qi-deficiency syndrome in children.
